It can be used to mean ‘ Quite ,’ ‘i n fact ,’ ‘ actually ,’ ‘ if anything ,’ ‘ rather ,’ ‘ on the contrary ,’ etc. Ex) 1. 그게 오히려 너희 관계를 망치는 행위가 될 수도 있어 . (That might actually/on the contrary  damage your relationship) 2 . 아니 , 오히려 그 반대지 . (Nope. It’s quite/rather  the opposite’. 3. 그건 오히려 너에게 좋은 기회 아니야 ? ( If anything , isn’t that a good opportunity for you?) Recently, a newly coined term ‘ 오히려 괜찮아 ’ or ‘ 오히려 좋아 ’ is used frequently. When one is drunk or drugged, one is likely to let go of the social anxiety, and alcohol can be a ‘truth serum’. Many researchers have found that alcohol can’t make anyone say something they weren’t already thinking or feeling even though not everything one says while under the influence of alcohol is necessarily true. There’s a similar term in Korean: ‘ 취중진담 ’ .   취 ( 醉 ) means ‘ drunk ’ or ‘ high ’; 중 ( 中 ) means ‘ in the middle ’ or ‘ while ’; 진 ( 眞 ) means ‘ the truth ’ or ‘ real ’; 담 ( 談 ) means ‘ talk ’ or ‘ conversation ’.
