[Korean Culture & Language] That That

Hello, this is Uptempo!

South Korean singer-rapper Psy, has made his way onto Billboard’s main singles chart again with “That That,” a song he co-wrote with BTS member Suga. It is Psy’s fifth song to be in the top 10. It has topped both local music streaming charts and Spotify.

The following are the lyrics:

Long time no see huh?

오래간만이지 huh?
It’s been a while, huh?

우리 다시 웃고 울고 지지고 볶고
We laugh, cry, and argue again

Even though ‘지지고 볶다’ literally translates to to sear and stir-fry,’ the expression is more often used to meanto argue a lot’ or ‘to share joys and sorrows’.

Let’s get loco

Pandemic's over uh

그래 기분이 오져 uh
Right, I feel wonderful, uh

오져’ is a new slang word for ‘wonderful

다시 그분이 오죠 uh
And He is back, uh

Everybody say

Can you feel it?
Can you feel it?
Oh oh woo yeah Oh woo oh

준비하시고 (Go) 쏘세요 (Oh)
Ready (Go) and shoot (Oh)
That that I like that (Like that)
기분 좋아 Babe (Babe)
I feel good Babe

흔들어 좌 우 위 아래로 (Sing it)
Shake it, left, right, up, and down.

One two three to the four (Sing it)

야 내가 뭐 하는 사람인지 까먹었지?
Have you forgotten what I do (or who I am?)

That that I like that (Like that)
시간이 지나도 변함없이
Time doesn’t change anything.

That that I like that (Like that)

내가 바라보고 바라왔던 사람들아
The people whom I have been wanting to be around and those I care about

바라보다’ literally translates to ‘watch’ or ‘see’. However, in this context, it means ‘to care about’ or ‘to rely on’.

바라왔다’ means ‘have been hoping (to be with).

모두 다 Ready set go!
