Slang words evolve over time, just like any language.

The below video explains how slang words have evolved over time.


It is titled: “옛날 잼민이와 요즘 잼민이의 말투차이”
‘옛날’ means ‘old’
‘잼민이’ refers to ‘little kids’ especially ‘elementary students’.
‘요즘’ means’ contemporary’ or ‘now’
‘말투’ means ‘diction’ or ‘one’s way(manner) of talking’

It is translated to “The differences between the languages kids used in the past and the languages they use now”

The term ‘잼민이’ first appeared in 2019 when someone used the AI voice of a little boy named ‘재민(Jaemin)’ on the internet for fun. Since many people thought it was fun to use the voice, the words ‘잼(fun)’ and ‘재민(Jaemin)’ were combined to form the word ‘잼민(Jaemmin).’

In the video, 주둥이 (Joodoonge) lists a number of words that were once popular among 잼민이s but are no longer in use. He says, “사라진 단어들이 있어요 (There are a few words that have disappeared).”

Some of the words that he has listed were 왕자병, 공주병, 얼짱, and 몸짱.

‘왕자병’ is directly translated to ‘prince disease,’ and it refers to ‘guys who are full of themselves.’
‘공주병’ is directly translated to ‘princess disease,’ and it refers to ‘girls who are full of themselves.’
‘얼짱’ directly translates as ‘best face,’ and it is used to refer to ‘attractive people.’ The word ‘짱’ was popular among youngsters in the 1990s and early 2000s, but it is no longer used today.
‘몸짱’ directly translates as ‘best body,’ and it is used to refer to ‘someone who has an attractive body.’

Hello, this is Uptempo! In July 2021, a Chinese man in his 50s got arrested for killing two people in China and fleeing to Korea. It took years to catch him because he has ‘ 신분세탁 (washed his identity) ’ . While hiding in China, he made a new passport after ‘ 신분세탁 (washing his identification) ’. He entered Korea in 2016, and has obtained a permanent residency (F5) visa by marrying a Chinese woman who had obtained Korean citizenship a while back.
