Many young Koreans nowadays use the term ‘킹 받는다’ to express that they are annoyed or angry about something. 


‘킹’ means ‘King’

‘받는다’ means ‘to receive’ or ‘to get’


It is a combination of the words ‘King(왕),’ which is often used as a slang term for ‘a lot’ and ‘열 받는다,’ which is directly translated to ‘getting the steam’ and means ‘angry’ or ‘annoyed’.


One of the most popular Tiktok/YouTube videos titled ‘느슨해진 힙합씬에 긴장감을 줘’ also has lyric, ‘킹 받어’ at the end.

‘느슨하다’ means ‘loose’

‘힙합’ means ‘hip–hop’

‘씬’ means ‘scene’
‘긴장감’ means ‘tension’
‘줘’ means ‘give’ or ‘add’


It means ‘Let’s add some tension to the loose hip-hop scene.’

‘킹받아’ has become popular after someone commented on a rap music video on YouTube and said, “느슨해진 한국힙합에 긴장감을 주는 것 같다(It seems to give tension to the loose Korean hip-hop)” and received 3.6 million likes. People started using the phrase everywhere including on memes.

Some apply the phrase to other sentences like ‘느끼해진 한국 힙합에 간장a을 주는 것 같다(It’s like adding soy sauce to the cheesy Korean hip-hop)"
