[Korean Culture & Language] Mercedes will come
Some men appear to be Mr. Perfect at first glance. They charm girls with elegant dinners, roses, and thoughtful gestures. However, they might be the ones who take girls on an exciting adventure and then just leave them in the dark, with their hearts broken and egos shattered
In Korea, there’s an idiom: “똥차 가고 벤츠 온다,” which is directly translated to “When a garbage truck leaves, Mercedes Benz will come”. 똥차 (garbage truck) usually refers to ‘bad guys’ who are untruthful, dishonest, violent, etc. 벤츠 (Mercedes Benz) refers to a good guy who is gentle, respectful, smart, loving, etc.
Many YouTubers are debating whether it is true that ‘벤츠(Mercedes)’ arrives following a ‘똥차(garbage truck)’ leaves. Many relationship specialists have stated that it’s not true.
A popular Korean YouTuber 박서아 (Seo-Ah Park) also claims in the video below that the statement isn’t true in reality.

She says “근데 내가 어디서 봤는데, ‘똥차가고나면 벤츠 온다? 개뿔. 똥차 가고 나면 킥보드 타고 온다… 아니에요 여러분. 뛰어옵니다. 뛰어와.”
어디서 means somewhere
봤는데 means saw
개뿔 means No way.
킥보드 means a scooter
뛰어와 means run
It means “I saw(heard) this somewhere, but someone said once that a Mercedes doesn’t come after a garbage truck. No way. A scooter comes after a garbage truck leaves. Wait, no. I mean they come running.”
She continues, “꼭 나쁜 사람 만나는 애들은 나쁜 사람만 줄줄이 계속 만나더라.(From what I’ve seen/experienced, the people who dates bad guys keep dating bad guys)”
