[Korean Culture & Language] Cat Loaf

Hello, this is Uptempo!

Relaxed cats sit with their paws tucked underneath them. Because this position makes them look like loaves of bread, it is often called ‘cat loaf’. It’s called ‘식빵자세(white bread position)’ in Korean.

Ex) 아기 고양이 ! 너무 귀엽다. 식빵 굽고있어.
Look at that kitty! It’s so cute. It’s toasting a loaf of white bread(loafing).

굽다 means ‘to toast’ or ‘to bake

Cats usually loaf when they feel safe. They keep their paws tucked beneath their bodies with their claws hidden, signaling that they don’t feel threatened. However, they might not be fully at peace, because if they were, they would show their bellies. They also loaf to keep their heat.
