[Korean Culture & Language]
Hello, this is Uptempo Marketers!
유재석(Yoo Jae Suk) is the most popular comedian and MC in Korea. He is the host of the most popular variety shows like Running Man, Happy Together, Infinite Challenge, Family Outing, and others. He is far more popular than any k-pop idols that have ever existed.
Matter of fact, Daily Sports Korea published that 유재석(Yoo Jae Suk) was rated the top in the survey “Who is your favorite celebrity” on November 20th, 2020. He had a higher popularity rating than BTS, with BTS and IU coming in second and third, respectively.
There is even a ‘유재석 어록 (Quotes by Yoo Jae Suk)’. The word ‘어록’ usually refers to a book that contains quotes from prominent historical figures. However, since many people consider 유재석 (Yoo Jae Suk) a ‘living legend,’ no one thinks it’s unusual to use the word ‘어록’ for his quotes.
Some of the most well-known quotes from him are:
I may be on top now, but the world is always changing. It’s something that I should be prepared for.
Hey, not everyone becomes a superstar. But it doesn’t mean that you can’t be one.
When I was an unknown comedian, I was always worried about ’what I should do the next day’.
You don’t have to win. Don’t worry. The winner will be revealed in the future.
I wanted to let you know that the flowers don’t demand much from us. They only need a little attention and water to bloom. They truly don’t ask much from us. Flowers can also blossom on their own only if you don’t walk on them and leave them alone.
Personally, the 5th quote struck me the most. Korea has one of the world’s most merciless education systems and a highly hierarchical work culture. ‘Stepping’ on others has become a common phenomenon because of the intense competition. I believe that there will be more successful people in Korea only if the culture allows individuals to be less competitive and more supportive of one another.
