The phrase “One was born with a silver spoon in their mouth” indicates someone who was born into a wealthy family and does not fully recognize or appreciate the worth of their inherited privilege. 

Koreans went even farther and classified people into several groups depending on their family’s wealth: 다이아수저 (Diamond spoon), 금수저 (Gold spoon), 은수저 (Silver spoon), 동수저 (Bronze spoon), 흙수저(Dirt spoon)

One is classified as a 다이아수저 (Diamond spoon) if their household has assets of KRW 3 billion or more or an annual income of KRW 300 million or more, as illustrated in the image above. They are among the top 0.1% of the population. 

One is classified as a 금수저 (Gold spoon) if their household has assets of KRW 2 billion or more or an annual income of KRW 200 million or more. They are among the top 1% of the population. 

One is classified as a 은수저 (Silver spoon) if their household has assets of KRW 1 billion or more or an annual income of KRW 80 million or more. They are among the top 3% of the population. 

One is classified as a 동수저 (Bronze spoon) if their household has assets of KRW 500 million or more or an annual income of KRW 55 million or more. They are among the top 7.5% of the population. 

One is classified as a 흙수저 (Dirt spoon) if their household has assets of less than KRW 50 million or an annual income of less than KRW 20 million.
