[Korean Culture & Language] Bedtime procrastination
Hello, this is Uptempo Marketers!
Have you ever put off going to bed because you were surfing the internet, eating food, playing video games, or watching TV even though you knew you would be exhausted the next day? According to solvingprocrastination.com, negative emotions, resentment, and a lack of drive can also lead to bedtime procrastination.
The below meme reads ‘Life is a series of nights when you don’t want to sleep and mornings when you wish you could’.
Do you agree?
Spending an unproductive day might be one of the causes of bad emotions before bedtime. Koreans sometimes even joke and call themselves ‘쓰레기(trash)’ when they haven’t done anything productive the whole day or feel useless to society.
The term ‘인간쓰레기(human trash)’ and ‘쓰레기(trash)’ is mainly used to refer to people who do not contribute anything to society but instead only bring harm to others. It could also refer to someone who relates a dirty image when talking about a non-dirty subject.
Below is a sarcastic meme about ‘쓰레기’:
It reads: ‘It is not okay to criticize yourself and call yourself ‘trash’. You are not one. Trash is something that has been used somewhere, but you haven’t been used anywhere. How dare you refer to yourself as ‘trash’? Apologize to the trash.’
Have you ever had nights when you didn’t feel like sleeping? What was the reason?
